OPENING NIGHT!

Yesterday it all kicked off in the Shore Conference. It was a night where some new faces and old faces stole he spotlight. There were no upsets yesterday but we got a real peek into what the season my offer us. One of those these is St. Rose junior BRYNN FARRELL.

BRYNN FARRELL, is new to the Shore Conference and for 10 minutes she found out even unranked teams in the Shore can present a problem. But Shore fans found out that BRYNN FARRELL, is a bigger problem. Yesterday Brynn Farell did not score a point for the first ten minutes. She missed wide open jump shots, she turned the ball over and just didn’t look like the player everyone was so excited about. Then at the 6 minute mark in the second quarter, it all started with one  nondescript free throw. It didn’t seem very important other than being Farrell’s first point in her Shore Career. What nobody knew at the time of the free throw was that Brynn Farrell, was getting ready to take fans in the stands at St. Rose on a magical, heavenly and exciting trip.

Brynn Farrell, decided that Holmdel who  trailed by 4 points at the time, needed to see what a true explosive nightmare looks like. Brynn Farrell, went om a 13 point scoring rampage. She scored 13 straight points and each one was more electrifying than the other. First she slashed to the basket like a runaway freight train. Then she buried a three point jumpers, she then  jumped in the high like a  gazelle and stole the ball out of her teams 1-3-1 defense. While see did all this, the crowd appeared stunned, as if to say. We have never seen this type of stuff. But then she went into the post and made a swirling,  twirling, dancing like post move that brought the house down. It was a thing of sheer beauty. It also was the finishing touches on Homdel…Brynn Farrell in 6 mins turned a close game into a laugher. She sent a message to the Shore Conference as well,…the HYPE IS REAL.

Lola Mullaney, went from not making All State last year to one of the best players in history before a game was played this year… …NOT! Yup politics at work again, Mullaney has always been star.  Mullaney has never gotten her due. She has been asked to play 2nd fiddle in the media and all her accomplishments have been mildly mentioned by anyone. She was not anointed as a star. Just her game has been a star. Yesterday, she opened her senior year by dropping 34 points and grabbing 5 rebounds. Mullaney is a leading candidate for player of the he year. But you know what, the Harvard bound senior at this point doesn’t even care anyone…she cares about dropping bombs on folks head…she had 7 three’s last night.

TRN is ranked #15 in the state. Everyone knows that ranking is either a big mistake or the Shore is going to have a ton of ranked teams. Last night TRN played one of those  rivalry games , that every coach hates. You know where the records don’t matter. It’s the  Hatfields and McCoy’s. TRN and TRE in front of a packed house did war. BRILLIE BISOGNO is playing like a women on a serious mission. She had 18 points, 5 steals, 4 dimes and 5 rebounds. BISOGNO clearly is thinking ALL SHORE 1st Team. Jenna Paul gave her a helping hand with 6 points and 13 rebounds in the 37-27 backyard brawl victory.

Buc[1]RBR got off to a wonderful start. All Freshman guard Chloe Teter is back and opened the season with a bang. Teter had 19 points in the opening season win. Mia strand had 4 threes for 12. RBC clearly has weapons

Remember when everyone thought with addition of its coming freshman class, that Howell could surprise everyone last season. Well last night Sophomore Caitlin Gresko and Grace Leary each had 17 points. Leary barely saw the floor last year. But the relentless gym rat has made herself a problem for opponents..Howell knocked off Freehold Twp ..50-45 getting this season off to a flying start.

RBC_athletics_shamrock_logo2_(1)[1]If there was any questions regarding the impact of the RBC babies. Those were answered last night. Justine “the baby unicorn” Pissott had 8 points in the first half and finished with 13 points. While Ally Carman had a  smashing debut with 20 points. Both  Freshman will be in the fire come Monday vs St. Rose. But it was Neptune baby Amiya Evans who keeps surprising everyone. She had 12 points, 8 rebounds and two steals in Neptune’s opening win.

Blowouts were all the range on opening….SJV, RFH, JACKSON MEM, MARLBORO and MANCHESTER made posting box scores  inappropriate. These teams all won easily all winning by 40 points or more. Nice to see no stat padding taken place in these games…well done coaches!

Donvan Catholic defeated Pinelands 26-16 and yes folks that score is correct. Clearly a defensive battle. Long Branch, Banaget, Keyport, mater Dei, Pt Beach and Pt. Borough all had opening day parties.
