These are two programs that play the best of the best each year. These are two programs where only one thing matters, winning chips. This season RBC has steam rolled everything in its path not named LUHI. Meanwhile RFH has played their typical tough non conference schedule and are now looking like a team nobody wants to see in the SCT. Tonight RFH looks to pick up that all important quality win for seeding and state rankings. RBC hopes to get a real competitive game in state for the first time this season. These are two teams with big time coaches, who have coached in big games and on big stages. There is nothing these two coaches have not seen. Tonight is going to be war from start to finish

GAME ONE RECAP

In the first game RBC jumped all over RFH from the start.  RBC had a 37-12 lead at the half. RFH made a minor run in the 3rd quarter and cut the lead to 13 before Coach Montano subbed his babies back in and that was that. RFH had only one double figure scorer on the night in Julia Corsentino on the night with 12 points. This was game was never in doubt and  the final score was 64-39.

OVERVIEW

RFH has once again played one of the most demanding schedules in the state. They are 0-5 in Top 20 games.  In some of those games they had a chance to win and in others they lost by double figures. The offense will be centered on Julia Corsentino who is averaging 16+  points and 4+ rebounds. Ella Mason has been a reliable three point shooter night in and night out. Transfer Raquel Guidetti, who got off to a slow start is rolling in a big way these day. She has been RFH’s leading scorer since the new year. Her numbers are scary these days. She right now is doing it all for RFH.  Sylvie Notine had been battling injuries and now is back at full strength and gives RFH more toughness and another scorer back. She is the master of playing her best in big games.  Dylan Cahill, has been in and out of the starting lineup. She has knocked down some big three’s this season and is clearly battle tested. Abby Boyle simply cannot do anymore this season. She has been rock solid and more. She has been a rebounding and defensive machine this season. She has been a force in the lane. Erin Reid has had to battle injuries this year. But she has showed flashes like her 8 points and 5 rebounds vs St. Rose when she attempted to put RFH on her back.  RFH  wants to play fast and hard. They have a press package and zone package to fall back on at any time They also will never quit on a game. This is a team whose identity is based on team effort and team energy.

OVERVIEW

There have blew out every time they have faced in the the state of New Jersey including RFH. They are the most talented team in the state top to bottom. The have shooters are every position. They also have the flexibility to play multiple styles of play. They are deep and experienced at each position. There is no one player that you must game play. That is because they have so many weapons. They are going to play two groups; a 5 in and 5 out rotation. They will press after made baskets and  also have a half court trap and 1-2-2 zone in their package. Their 2nd group will run and force turnovers. The first group will play lock down half court defense and wear you down. They are one of the best 3 point shooting teams in the state. But they are also big time rim attackers.

STRENGTHS

RBC- They have 5 players who can take over a game at any point. Tessa Carman can and has been a one women wrecking crew. Christina Liggio has already proven she can carry the team on her back. Addy Nymcheck is the most complete freshman in the Shore and their leading scorer. Casey Prior has broken more teams hearts than any player on this roster. Katie Liggio right now just may be their best player. The play excellent half court defense and gang rebound. Their bench is their biggest strength as they come in and apply massive pressure and play at a pace that at time is hard to believe. This is a very confident group who ar all dangerous shooters and scorers.

RFH –Julia Corsentino is still one of the best players in the state. Raquel Guidetti right now is playing lights out. These two form a dangerous offensive backcourt. But can score in bunches and quickly either from the three or in the lane. Both “LIVE” at the free throw line. Both are also are big at grabbing the ball off the rim and start the break. They form an elite backcourt. Ella Mason and Dylan Cahill  are deadly three point shooters when left open and  both are very confident. Abby Boyle has been a force in the lane all season and has shown she is also capable of scoring. Erin Reid is big and strong and will give valuable minutes off the bench or as a starter.

WEAKNESS

RFH-They have lost late games late against top teams with a chance to win. Their shot selection and decision making is very spotty at times. But it’s their transition defense when they go up in competition that has let them down. The bench is thin and free throw shooting has been spotty this season

RBC– Their first group have gotten off to poor starts all season for the most part. They do not defend the three point line at times. Ball screens have been a major issue, but a hidden problem because of the blowout scores.

ADVANTAGE/DISADVANTAGE

THE GUARDS

RFH– Julia Corsentino we know is a problem always for defense. But recently she had 10 dimes in a game. Showing she can also if need be set up teammates. But it’s Raquel Guidetti that has flipped the entire script for RFH. Her high scoring act has put everyone on notice. She is very capable of dominating this game tonight. She allows Corsentino not to have to force shots and at time take a blow.  Sylvie Notine is battle tested and will be out for revenge tonight, She is competitive and has played in big games. She also has shown she can make shots in big games, she is fearless and that is a fact. Ella Mason proved early in the season she is capable of scoring and knocking down shots under pressure. This group has excellent ball handlers and they are tough as nails. They will not back down from a good fight. They also have shown they can play lock down half court defense. They will battle to the whistle

RBC– Casey Prior and Katie Liggio is the most dangerous three point duo in the state. Addy Nyemcheck has the ability to do it all and take over games in the lane of from outside. She is also is murder in the RBC press. Christina Liggio is a major handful and a nightmare matchup. Lola Giordano and Daniela Maletsky come at you in waves on both sides of the ball. Molly Kelly and Tessa Liggio are flat out the best two headed point guards in the Shore. This group is off the charts

ADVANTAGE- RBC,  yes RFH has closed the gap with the play of Guidetti. But the RBC group is deep and talented beyond anything we have seen in years

THE FORWARDS

DAYLAN CAHILL  has the perfect in matchup waiting for her in Emma Carman she has the foot speed  and size to play her to a draw or better. Abby Boyle is long, athletic and can cause problem in the lane. Erin Reid is getting better and better as the season marches on. She could be the one player that RFH has up front that can slow down Tessa Carman

Tessa Carman is the best player on the RBC roster these days. She is a rebounding machine and the best shot block in the conference. She is a nightmare matchup for RFH. Emma Carman has had some moments where she has shot the ball will this season. Sofia Smith has been sensation off the bench whenever she has been called upon this season. She has been great on defense, rebounded and has found ways to score.

ADVANTAGE- RBC… just has too many options available to them.

THE BENCH

RBC has the best bench in the state of New Jersey.

Erin Reid, Emma Mason or Dylan Cahill depending on who doesn’t start is the bench

ADVANTAGE- RBC…They can bring all types of players off the bench. Scorers, shooters, ball handlers and rebounding.

THE INTANGIBLES

RFH– They have been in the wars. They also have made a run in every game this year late, including against RBC when getting blowout. They have a never say die attitude. They are on the upswing and playing like a team on a mission lately

RBC – They have lots of confidence these days. They can play just about any style.

ADVANTAGE- RFH….There competitive nature is worth points in a big way

WHAT TO EXPECT?

First of all RFH is at home. There is going to be a big large crowd for this game, RFH is playing much better these days, I expect Julia Corsentino and Raquel Guidetti to lead the offense. I say RFH plays fast but they takes good shots and move the ball tonight. I also believe RFH will try and rebound with two tonight when RFH goes to their 2nd unit, they will try to prevent that group from getting layups.  I also believe RFH will run, run, RBC’s  first group. Look for RFH is take a boat load of three’s tonight. RBC is not changing tonight. They will go 5 in and 5 out. Their  2nd group will come in and press and try to wear RFH down for the 1st groups return. Do not be surprise to see Tessa Carman in the post tonight more than ever. I do not believe RFH has a matchup for her. RFH must take advantage of the first 5 minutes of the game and put pressure on the RBC 2nd unit to bail them out. They cannot play the 1st group even, they must have a lead after the 1st 5 mins. RBC need its first unit just to be solid and play defense. They can’t put the 2nd unit in a hole. The same has to take place in the 3rd quarter for both teams.

MY PICK?

I say Dave Callahan’s team late in the year are a handful always. He is the master of making changing and getting his teams ready mentally. I also say RFH wins the 1st 5 mins of the 1st and 3rd quarters. Setting up a wonderful finish in tonights matchup. In the end RBC gets that competitive in state game, they have needed so  badly and RFH gets that quality win it’s been hunting all year

I SAY THE BULLDOGS TAKE A BITE OUT OF RBC IN A DOG FIGHT!
