KYLA GLASSER-HYMAN…JUST WHAT YOUR LOOKING FOR!

There are always kids who seem to have a harder road than most. It seems nothing comes easy for them. No matter how talented they are or how hard they work. But the good news is that when things finally break for these types of kids they seem to always break big. These days things seem to be breaking for Kyla Glasser-Hyman in a big way. That’s because this summer she put her name on the map and now has caught the attention of coaches, including D1 coaches. It seems things are looking up for the talented 2023 point guard.

The first time I saw Kyla Glasser- Hyman play I took for granted that she was a talented player with a big future. I came to learn she played at Hightstown high school and quietly had one of the best freshman seasons in the Shore. In fact, her freshman season numbers were as impressive as any other freshman in the Shore Conference. She had 364 points, 103 rebounds, 98 dimes and 96 steals. Folks, no freshman was putting up numbers like that in the Shore. Despite all this her name was barley mentioned. I personally did not hear of her once during her freshman season. So when I saw her that day for the first time I thought for sure she played on a powerhouse AAU team and was not from the area. I soon found out I was wrong on both counts. You see Kyla Glasser-Hyman has been trying to to find her way to the spotlight. The first time I saw Kyla Glasser- Hyman play I took for granted that she was a talented player with a big future. You see Kyla Glasser-Hyman has been trying to to find her way to the spotlight. Getting the light to shine on you can be difficult when you don’t play for a powerhouse AAU program and you don’t play at a brand name high school. But some how Kyla Glasser- Hyman has been doing just that lately.

This year Kyla Glasser- Hyman transferred to Stuart Day High School to start the year. It seemed like a good move for Kyla as Stuart Day would rise her profile and give her a chance to gain some name recognition. But it became painfully clear that Covid and the travel were going to be a problem. There was also the little problem of the basketball season as well. So after a month and a half into the year Kyla Glasser- Hyman was forced to return to Hightstown. She knew it meant being right back into the same spot she was as a freshman. Except now Covid made it worse than ever. She played a few games. Got a few double/doubles and once again was playing in the darkness. But Kyla Glasser- Hyman is a warrior. She is also a serious competitor, that embraces competition. It’s the thing I noticed about the first time I saw her play. Last fall I watched her in the HOOP GROUP TOP 100, she was one of the best guards in the event and basically nobody said a word about her. You see Kyla has yet to be crowned. She is not one of the Shore darlings and part of the “in” crowd. She is not part of the inner circle of players that media and those on social media hype up. She is just a baller who loves to compete. She doesn’t know much about the political stuff, she just wants somebody to notice her game. Well she can stop worrying, coaches and the Shore community are starting to see the light.

This spring Kyla Glasser- Hyman decided to do something bold. She tried out for Bill McDonough Jr Rebels out of Philly. The Rebels are one of the most respected AAU teams on the east coast. They always play the best competition and are always well coached. Kyla knew she needed to rise her profile and the Rebels could be the answer to all her exposure problems. She was right because this spring and summer have been a dream for the 2023 talented point guard. The Rebels were one of the best U16 teams on the HGSL circuit. So good that they won the circuit’s first 16’s title and she played as big a role as anyone. It was when I was watching the Belles play and she became a one woman wrecking crew. Her defensive pressure had the talented Belles on their heels all afternoon. But it was her ability to push the ball and get buckets for her teammates that was most impressive. She found teammates in transition or after breaking down the Belles in the half court. It was an electric performance. So much that I decided to watch her very next game and guess what? The exact same movie, just a different place and time. She was spectacular all weekend. She was so good I thought that Division one schools would be wise to sit up and take notice….and these days that’s exactly what has taken place.

This week while many so called talented D1 players sat home resting up or doing all the things stars do. Kyla -Glasser Hyman was at Point Guard School. I finally got a chance to see her over a long extended period of time. I finally got a chance to spend some quality time with her. I got a chance to get to know her a little bit. So I want to pass a message along to DIVISION ONE COACHES AND FANS OF HOOPS

“Kyla Glasser- Hyman is one of the most innocent kids I have ever met. She is like lamb among wolves. She doesn’t talk a lot or bring attention to herself. I just know basketball means everything to this kid. She loves the game with a passion you can’t fake. She is a total gym rat without drama who is as coachable as they come. Now if your looking for a true point guard that defends like her life is on the line. You will love this young lady. If you want a point guard that understands how to push the ball and play with pace…. This is the kid for you. If you want a player who is an exciting playmaker…Kyla Glasser- Hyman is your girl. Do you want a player that has thick skin and won’t break or back down this is your kid. Finally if you want a kid who has no issues accepting truth…look no further Kyla Glasser – Hyman is your answer.”

So the journey for Kyla Glasser has gotten a little easier thanks to the Rebels and her never say die attitude. Now she has a chance to do even bigger things now. She has gained the respect of everyone who has seen her play this summer. Now we all know her a little better…that’s because she has walked a long hard road for such a young player. But right now it appears it’s been worth it!
