EMMA ELMER… THE LONG GAME

You never know for sure what the future looks like when it comes to young players. These days so many are quick to hype a young player. These days it’s fashionable to crown kids who are big , stronger and more athletic at an early age. But what people don’t understand is that is that some kids grow and some kids don’t. Some kids win the long race and others do not. Emma Elmer of Belmar has been playing the long game and winning.

Emma Elmer is a 8th grader. I known her since she was in 4th grade. She has always been a quiet kid. One without an ego. A kid that was never the star player. She just seemed to be a kid just playing basketball. She has never had an agenda. There was never a method to her madness. She just showed up trained and went home. There was nothing about her that stood out. But about two years ago something changed. I believe EMMA wanted more. You could tell by work ethic and commitment. She had decided she wanted to be special. To be called one of the best in her class. So she did what many young kids refuse or can’t do. She made the sacrifices. She put the time in and these days is being rewarded.

EMMA ELMER needed to get quicker, so she got into the ladders everyday and improved her footwork and quickness. She needed to improve her fitness, so she ran. She needed to improve her skills so she out worked everyone. Emma Elmer understood what it took to reach her potential. When I worked at the hoop group I can’t think of day she didn’t show up. She didn’t do one workout, she often did three. It’s this work ethic that has elevated her game. It’s why when I saw her for the first time time in months my jar dropped. She was big, strong, skilled and filled with confidence. The kind of confidence a kid has when they know there good. The kind that screams, I can play with the best. EMMA ELMER make no mistake is one of the best players in the 2030 class. She doesn’t have the hype but she has the game.

The best thing that ever happen to EMMA ELMER, is that she didn’t have an ego. Here parents didn’t complain about her status. She was a second class citizen and it allowed her to work under the radar. To grow as a player. She never had to compete against her peers. She just needed to be the best version of herself of herself. Now she has jumped over so many other kids. She has gained the respect of all. She has that status many want without having to chase it. She just worked for it. There is a big difference. Now she can attend any high school she wants. Now she is tracking as a future impact player. EMMA ELMER is an example of hard work and focus. She is what all kids should be … humble and committed! I can tell you from my standpoint it so much fun to watch EMMA ELMER EVOLVE into this talented young player.
