Shea Donnelly is not one who likes a lot attention. She is what we call a silent assassin. You give her a mission and she accomplishes that mission and moves on. No fanfare of credit needed. That’s why her committing to one of the best school in America should really come as no surprise. COLBY UNIVERSITY and SHEA DONNELLY are the perfect fit.
Shea Donnelly has quietly been doing big things at Manasquan high school for years now . She has hit big shots and made big plays over the years. She has been a winner as well. While at Manasquan she has won two state titles. Meanwhile her UNITED AAU team was one of the best in New Jersey. She has always played against top competition every step of the way. So it really comes as no surprise that she chose to continue her career at COLBY UNIVERSITY. You see Colby plays in the NESCAC. One of the two best D3 conferences in America.
THE NESCAC is one the four so called academic conferences. The Ivy League, Patriot League, the UAA and NESCAC is where real student athletes attend college. These are the leagues where they play competitive basketball at the highest level but never at the expense of education. The NESCAC can rival most D1 school in terms of talent. But more importantly it is a first class conference. The teams all fly to major cites, stay in first class hotels. Play in big time facilities and in front of real crowds. It offers a kid everything they could hope for athletically and gives them a. great life experience. They get to travel the world and do what they love most, play basketball. Nobody deserves this more than Shea Donnelly.
Shea Donnely has had to be patient in waiting for her opportunity at Manasquan. She has had to sit behind some rock star players including her sister Mary ( Holy Cross) who was a First Team ALL SHORE PLAYER. But she never complained or made drama. She took any minutes she got and made the best of them. It why last year she was so prepared to have a break out season. A season where every night it seems she did just about everything. She defended, scored , rebounded, assisted, made the extra pass, set screens. In other words she did the “ winning shit” that only coaches and teammates love and appreciate.
SHEA doesn’t have much to say. She really lets her game do the talking. She is throw back type kid. She isn’t on social media or that player of bloggers write about. You see it because her game has real substance, not pizzazz. She just plays the game and she plays it very well. Her parents LAURA and Mark are not in the stands making spectacles of themselves. They support Shea but are always respectful to all around them. Her dad, MARK was a rock star player at Davidson University. He also has been a staple in the area as he has mentored many of the best players in the Shore growing up. But just like his daughter he doesn’t need credit or attention. Like his daughter they get satisfaction in seeing the success or end game. In other words the big picture. In the case the end game doesn’t get much better, COLBY UNIVERSITY is a dream come true.
If you ask me to describe Shea Donnelly game, that would be insanely easy. She is a model of consistency. You know what you’re getting day in and day out. They are no surprises, just good old school performances, every time she steps on the floor. The coach lays out the plan and then she does the work. She just does it better than most without the bells and whistles. Shea Donnelly has never looked the part, but she has just always played it with consistency either as a player or teammate better than most . I guess that why she has always been a winner.
The NESCAC also know as the “LITTLE IVY’S” is getting ready to have a gem added to the conference. COLBY UNIVERSITY, just got a little better as a basketball team. There culture just got a little better as well. But more than anything COLBY UNIVERSITY just got a good person that will make them and their school proud. They will be amazed by goodness and kindness. They will smile with joy whenever she walks by. They will be touched by her humbleness and unselfish nature. I can tell you, I have always had a soft spot in my heart for Shea Donnelly. … I can’t put into word how happy I am for she, her parents and sisters. …
