THE NEW BABY FACED ASSASSIN| MORGAN FIEDLER
FRESHMAN MORGAN FIEDLER of BABYLON HIGH SCHOOL and The LONG ISLAND LIGHTING, was just named 2nd team ALL STATE IN NEW YORK. There certainly had to be a few people surprised by this accomplishment by the 2029 talented guard. It’s not every day a baby faced assassin shows up in a town near you. But for those who watched MORGAN FIEDLER play varsity as a 8th grader win a county chip and then this season, run in back for the first time in programs history. All this was just a matter of time and that time has arrived. MORGAN FIEDLER is the real deal and college coaches are going to begging for her services real soon.
Last summer a skinny little 7th grader showed up at NBS. She had drove over 90 mins one way just to train. In most cases this would be a surprise. But her father Scott is a former D1 coach at WAGNER COLLEGE on the men’s side. We’ve known each other for years. For me it was a reunion and a chance to have that rare real meaningful basketball conversation. So while talking to Scott, I noticed out the corner of my eye, his daughter was not just ordinary. Like most coaches Scott talked about Morgan’s weakness and how much work that still needed to be done. But those were the words of a coach. Scott, had to know, what even a blind man can see, his daughter MORGAN was no ordinary rising 8th grader. He had to know that I was looking at something different…. Something special. That year MORGAN FIEDLER, made the BABYLON HIGH SCHOOL VARSITY. She would start and help lead the team to a county chip. It was clear to those on Long Island, a baller, a very special baller had arrived.
Last fall Morgan made the long trip to NBS on weekends. She was a few inches taller and a little stronger. She also was dripping in confidence and drowning defenders in her talent and skill sets. You see Morgan Fiedler is not just skilled up up. She takes it to a different level. It’s rare to see a young player with her vision, skills, talent, toughness, competitive nature and INSANE IQ. Morgan’s feel for that game you do not teach. You either have it or you don’t. Morgan averaged 19.2 points a game. It’s one of the reasons why when she showed up at NBS this year, everyone was asking who is that girl… well she is the new “BABY FACE ASSASSIN”. She is a player that college coaches will beg to have her run their team. To be the face of her their team. She is that GYM RAT, that’s blessed with talent, skill and a winning attitude.
NBS last fall summer and fall had the best freshman on the state on hand come through its doors. Name them and they were there. Morgan Fiedler took a back seat to none. When I matched her up against one of the best freshman in the state last fall it was curtains. That’s because the quickness and shiftiness was on full display. Her ability to change directions, stop on the dime and shoot, could be a lesson in how to shake and abuse defenders. If Morgan Fiedler was in the state of New Jersey she be one of the best young players in the entire state. If she was in the Shore Conference, she be the best freshman point guard by a country mile. They might just be calling her FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR as well. You must understand, Morgan Fiedler is that good. There is something about MORGAN. She is that player that you want to play with, that you want with the ball in her hands late in games. That you want making the decisions, calling the shots. She is that player D1 coaches will line up to sign one day… because she is special, different… NO, she is one of the RARE ONES!
MORGAN FIEDLER drove three hours (yes 3 hours) to attend the MAINTENANCE SHOOTING SESSION on Fridays at Charter Academy. When she walked in, I immediately noticed she had grown again and she had gotten stronger. I don’t know why it surprised me. That’s what kids do on their own time table. There is no magic wand that can tell us when a kid will hit their growth spell. We just know it’s coming. The real question is will that kid have the tools, the skill sets when it happens? Morgan Fiedler has them all right now. She also has something else. PRESENCE, the thing all the great ones have. When Morgan Fiedler walks in a gym it hard to ignore her. There is something about her walk, the aura that surrounds her, it just feels different. You know your around something different.
There was a “baby faced assassin a few years ago. Her name was JaneMcCauley. She was a gym rat, drove hours to NBS. She went on to play D1 basketball. She asked lots of questions, she wanted to get better everyday. Jane was a GYM RAT. These days she is running marathons. Well this “NEW BABY ASSASSIN” is named MORGAN FIEDLER. as well. She only cares about two things getting better and winning. She’s mastered both of these objectives. She real soon will be a D1 player as well. MORGAN is running her marathon. She is chasing GREATNESS!
