SCT THOUGHTS… PLAYERS OF DAY… ALL SHORE TRACKER… STARS… COACHES AND MORE

Well we’re right were everyone knew we’d be this year. RBC vs SJV. These two teams were head and shoulders above the rest of the Shore and now they get to settle it all on the court. But no way is this game for #1 in the state. That has been decided. SJV’s track record win or lose is better than RBCs. But tomorrow is 100% about a SCT banner to hang on the wall.

Trinity Hall is still in search of its first postseason win and that hasn’t escaped McCarthy as he prepares for his first season at the helm for the Monarchs.

“Of course it’s our goal, it will be our goal every year,” McCarthy said when asked about getting that first postseason win. “Our expectations are to continue on the path that last year’s team was on. But we’re tasked with having to replace four starting seniors this year and there’s a lot of work to be done early as far as who’s going to step into those shoes.”

my..my has things changed in 3 years… now THEY’RE PLAYING for a chip

Think about this, Trinity Hall is playing for a chip on Saturday. Now can anyone say with a straight face, they saw this coming 3 years ago? What Coach Matt McCarthy has done in such a short time is amazing. Guess what it he has also hit pay dirt in the talent race as well. Because some of the best 8th graders in the area are planning on attending Trinity Hall. It looks like Trinity is going to be around for awhile.

Well you know what they say… CAN YOU GET YOUR NUMBERS NOW. Katie Hill. is getting her numbers and so is Justine Pissott but so is Olivia Conroy. She has been lights out right now. Hannah Oldoff is getting her numbers . It’s funny both their teams have advanced to the finals. Donovan Catholic and Freehold Twp. If the first two games were any indication of what to expect. …it’s going to be classic!

Speaking of Donovan Catholic, those kids will never forget what they have done this year. More importantly there really showed what can happen when kids accept their roles and play as a team. Covid really had this team on the ropes and they have answered the bell in a big, big way. I can’t say enough about Coach Jansen. He has built a winning culture this year and the future for Donovan Catholic looks bright.

Now let’s talk about Jackson Memorial. They get shut down for 16 days an beat Manchester without a practice. Then are left out of the Top 20 for a reason nobody has really explained. Then they lose to Howell and for some reason Manchester is seeded ahead of them. They got the honor of playing SJV, why? Nobody knows. Then last night they beat RFH and yet still no promises they will be in the Top 20… It’s a joke the way the kids have been treated this year. There mental toughness has been off the charts. Now you tell me what happens come All Shore time? Where you putting Lexi Linton and Rachel Caputo? Linton had 36 points and Caputo had 20… I think that is called getting your number on the big stage.

Has anyone seen what Lucy Alberici has done the last 3 games? Well she just turned the light out on 3 of the best offensive guards in the Shore Conference. Right now outside of Emma Bruen she is the best defensive player in the Shore.

People are expecting a RBC vs SJV game to war and tight. Well I will have a lot to say about that. That game could be tight but it could also be a blowout. Did anyone see RBC vs the St. Rose press last night. If they have any chance they will have to clean that up. But I wonder if SJV knows this, when RBC is shooting well. They are almost as impossible to beat as SJV….

You know Hannah Orloff and Freehold Twp knocking off Holmdel is not as big of surprise as you think. They were in almost every game this year and it got them battle tested. Holmdel is talented and will be back next year. They need to find a little better competitive nature if they want to get to the next level. It will be a little harder without Oliva Palmer and Ryann Taylor. The two seniors have a left their mark on the program for years.

GENEVIEVE FARA  of Point Boro, had another double/double with 15 points and 10 rebounds in a lost to Mater Dei in the POD D. She has had a wonderful season floating under the radar. She had 6 double/double from the guard position….guess she got her numbers.

Mater dei will take on Wall in the POD D TITLE GAME. Wall freshman Shayne Eldridge will make her final case for All Freshman Team on Saturday. She had 18 points and 5 rebounds and 5 assists in the semi final.

BORO IS PLAYING FOR A CHIP TOMORROW

I happen to like the POD setup. I hope we stick to it. It gets so many more teams a chance to play for something. Think about if all the POD title games were played at one site. Now that would be a treat of treats. 6 title games at one site. I think everyone would have a ball.

I will drop by picks tonight and in the meantime… enjoy the ride.
