COLLEGE COACHES … The Education of BROOKE MISSRY
So I have a few questions to ask you about BROOKE MISSRY. Like how many big shots does she have to make before you admit everything thing she does is not an outlier but real? How many big game performances does she have to have on the biggest stages? When will we all acknowledge she is one of the best players in NEW JERSEY? These are fact not words. Not hype from phony scouting services. This is not the nonsense you read by bloggers who never coached or played the game. These are the words from someone who happens to have seen them all over the years. Someone who knows truth. I’m a big believer in facts and the fact of the matter is BROOKE MISSRY unfortunately for a few D1 schools has totally out grown her recruitment.
BROOKE MISSRY is a gym rat. Most do not know this. She is a throw back to years long gone. She is a player the goes to the park, remember those days and works in her game. Remember when kids didn’t need gyms and air conditioning, just a basket and a ball. She drives 45 mins to train at US HOOPS. The place where the best teachers in the business reside. She shoots at the Hoop Group and does it all with a smile. You see Brooke Missry loves the game. She doesn’t play for hype, rewards and attention. Why do you think everyone loves being around her? She is confident not arrogant. She‘ll one day sign a scholarship at a D1 school. But that is not way she plays. She plays because she loves the game. She loves being around teammates, she loves competing and she loves winning. See Brooke is a throwback, a coaches dream. The type of player that is hard to find these days.
When Brooke Missry was a freshman at St. ROSE, she saw little playing time. Yet there was no talking about transferring or blaming the coach. Her parents weren’t in the stands complaining and making excuses for her. You saw them cheering and Brooke smiling. They were happy to be part of something special. You see parents matter these days. Brooke Missry has rock star parents. They don’t teach their kids to run and bring drama. They teach their kids to embrace it all and enjoy the ride. Maybe that’s reason their older daughter Hannah, scored 1000 points at Fordham and was All A-10. Maybe that’s reason Brooke has blossomed into a star, these days. Folks I’m giving you facts here not words. I’m telling teaching you, how greatness is created.
When Brooke Missry hit the game trying 3 point shot as a sophomore to save the day vs Trinity Hall. It was a big moment for her and the St Rose basketball program. But for me it was nothing new. That’s because against the best of the best at the NBS camp. I watched Brooke Missry hit big shots all week. You see Brooke Missry has ice in her veins. She simply doesn’t feel pressure. This past season vs RED BANK CATHOLIC, she tired to single handily lead St. ROSE to a SCT title. She hit so many big shots, it almost became expected. Yet it seems we just won’t give Brooke her due. St. Rose runs no plays for her and yet she finds a way to impact the game. She is a smart effective defender. She is a sneaky offensive rebounder, she is a post passing genius and she never as in never turns the ball over. Yet for some strange reason we don’t want to believe our own eyes. Maybe it’s because she’s not show time. Maybe it’s because she doesn’t jump up and down and bring attention to herself. Maybe it’s because BROOKE MISSRY is just so good we expect it.
Now Brooke Missry plays for the D1 loaded U17 SHORESHOTS. She has been by far there most consistent player. Her unselfish style is rare in AAU. But once again it’s just who Brooke Missry is and what she does. She can take over games with her scoring, defense, playmaking or rebounding. They call that versatility these days. I call it the “WINNING SHIT” without hype. Maybe I should call it the BROOKE MISRRY STUFF instead. That’s because it seems everything Brooke Missry touches turns to gold. There are few kids these days with her ability who don’t thrive on getting attention and being front page news. Brooke Missry is the true definition of GAME OVER HYPE.
I know the D1 schools recruiting BROOKE MISSRY, there great programs. I feel bad in some ways. That’s because the truth of the matter is bigger programs unfortunately are on the way. ATLANTIC CITY is the worse thing than can happen to them from a recruiting standpoint. Maybe schools won’t pay attention or not believe what they are seeing. Brooke is not a highlight reel, she just insanely productive. It will be hard for coaches to miss her IQ and feel for the game. But in the era of hype maybe that will be dismissed by coaches. Either way the schools currently recruiting her are up against it. But if I could offer these schools a ray of hope, they should remember this. Brooke Missry doesn’t play to crowd, never has and never will. She won’t choose a school for bragging rights. She won’t be looking for a brand name but rather the right name. Her parents do not live through her success. They have been here and done this. Brooke Missry is insanely loyal and more important has always traveled in winning inner circles. So if you are good people, honest and full of joy for the game… YOU WILL STILL HAVE A CHANCE TO SIGN GREATNESS.
