NBS is a measuring stick. It’s a place where everyone gets an equal start. It’s a place for a kid to prove what and who they are as a player. It reveals so much about a player, like the things that matter. There competitive nature, the ability to show up and the big thing. The ability to preform against real next level talent. MADISON KOCIS OF ST. JOHN VIANNEY, not only checked every box at the NBS INVITE CAMP. She put in what can only be called a super human performance all week.
There have been some legendary performances at NBS over the past 20+ years. But last week Madison Kocis put her name in the conversation for greatest weeks in NBS CAMP history. To say Madison Kocis of St. John Vianney, was the best player in the gym last week is an insult to her. She was simply on a different level of any player in just about every area of the game last week. Her teams seem to win every game last week. She won the 3 v 3 three contest and 2 v 2 contest. Name it and she won it last week in dominate fashion. She was on the Top 5 team every day last week. That has never happened in 24 years at NBS. She seen to make every big shot and play last week. She seemed to drop more dimes than any snitch on planet earth so consistently and eye opening. Madison Kocis was just a level better than everyone else during the week. It’s why she was the runaway PLAYER OF THE WEEK. We simply have not seen a dominant performance like we just witnessed. She was dynamic and at times shockingly good. More importantly she did something that is not easy this time of year. She showed up all 5 days of camp. Madison Kocis was simply magical and now has set the “NEW” standard for all future NBS INVITE MVP’S
Too often everything is about hype these days. NBS INVITE doesn’t do hype. You can be a future D1 players who is committed or have D1 offers and make the Top 20 or 40 games. Everything is based on your daily performance. This works as an advantage for Madison St Rose. That’s because she is one of the most efficient players not just in the Shore Conference but the state. But what was more clear than anything else last week at NBS was this. While other talented players in the state are living off hype and reputation. Madison Kocis is emerging into one of the 5 best players in the state right under everyone’s noses. She doing it without the hype machine. Her physical growth is astounding and she is just coming into her body as she has grown 4-5 inches in the past year and a half. But at just under 6ft she has Maintained all her guard skills. Now her magnificent post up game, shooting, efficiency and range has led to a once in a lifetime type player and package. All of this was on full display last week. Madison Kocis is doing all these magical things quietly and efficiently… day after day she proved this all week in winning the
NBS INVITE CAMP MVP.
The list of past camp MVP’s and stars at NBS is impressive. Madison St Rose (Princeton), Justine Pissott( U of Tennessee/VANDY), Kelly Hughes (Boston College and all time Shore Scoring leader) or Martina Ellerbee( Ohio State) to name a few. But none has checked in with a week like the one Madison Kocis just put together. This was a historic performance from Day 1 to Day 5. Most impressive, she did not miss one day or game. She did not miss one single drill the entire week. Madison Kocis is a reminder of days long ago. A. kid just showing up and balling out…not looking for hype or attention. Just competition against some of the best. She understands commitment and hard work. Not only was she the best player in the gym, she was the hardest worker as well.
Again she was super human….
This summer has been one of growth and work for Madison Kocis. Few have been more productive or see their game rise more. Again without hype but rather by being efficient. She will roll into fall knowing she has joined that small group of players that have a NBS Camp MVP on their resume. She has proven she is not just one of the best but she can do it on any stage. That’s because her mental toughness and game screams greatness.
YES… MADISON KOCIS WAS SUPER HUMAN and it’s just the beginning… TRUST ME!
