EMMA THORTON is one of the few players in New Jersey history with 1000 points and Rebounds. Now she is the ALL TIME LEADING SCORER IN BARNEGAT GIRLS BASKETBALL HISTORY. It’s now means here name will stand alone when you look up and see the banners of past greats hanging in the BARNEGAT gym. Now her banner will stand alone and sit on the mountain top of BARNEGAT greats. That’s because right now EMMA THORTON IS SIMPLY THE BEST….
EMMA THORTON, has earned everything that has come her way recently. She has earned a FULL SCHOLARSHIP to East Stroudsburg University. By working harder than most and has never taken shortcuts. It’s rare to earn a full D2 scholarship these days. But then again EMMA THORTON is rare. Just like her grabbing her 1000th rebound this year was rare. That’s about rare as it gets because that takes work. Hard work, you know, the dirty work nobody wants to do. EMMA, has truly earned the right to be one of the few to score 1000 points and rebounds. You see EMNA THORTON is perfectly fine doing big things, the hard things without a lot of fanfare. It’s been that way since she arrived at BARNEGAT 4 years ago.
This past summer EMMA THORTON, played with the HGSL U17 Shoreshots. A team of all D1 players. A team loaded with players that play at the best high school programs in the state. She wanted to see if she was really up to the task. Well the multiple college scholarship offers answered that question. That’s because it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see the energy and passion that BARNEGAT’S ALL TIME LEADING SCORER plays with. It’s a shame that we haven’t given Emma her due over the years. She stayed loyal to her school, coach Tammy Nicolini and her teammates and didn’t run out the back door, when it would have been so easy to do so. She never craved the spotlight even tho she deserved it . Emma THORTON just wants to play basketball, something she enjoys and does better than most could ever dream about doing. She is the G0.A.T now of scoring at her high school. She has been rewarded for doing something few kids can do… SACRIFICE.
I tell EMMA THORTON, “you don’t work hard”….”You’re going to get the East Stroudsburg University coaches fired”. Now of course everyone looks at me like a madman, when I say these things. That’s because all these words are total bullshit. Because anyone who has ever seen Emma THORTON play knows she is not capable of giving anything less than 110%. She’d die before short changing you and not giving you a full days work. It’s why from day one at East Stroudsburg University. She will be prepared and a starter, while she begins a new march to a new 1000 points and 1000 rebounds. That’s because she is that good and will be that dominant. It’s just in her DNA. Now she is leaving some of that DNA in the BARNEGAT history and record books.
It was ironic, that it was a jump shot that led to Emma becoming the leading scorer In BARNEGAT history. That’s because Emma has worked so hard on her game and has evolved as a player. It’s this work ethic that has got her where she is today. BARNEGAT is blessed to have such a player these days. They are a Top 10 team in the Shore. They’re the best team in Ocean County. Right now it all going there way and the biggest reason why is EMMA THORTON… THE BEST TO EVER LACE THEM UP AT BARNEGAT
