WHITNEY HOBSON is off to Spooky Nook this weekend. She is part of the United u17 team, coached by one of the best coaches in New Jersey, Joe Gaba. Now many kids are going to unsure of themselves entering the weekend. Whitney Hobson will not be one of those kids. That’s because she has prepared for this moment long ago. There will be no surprises come Friday. Whitney Hobson will do what she all does, come prepared and ready to do the intangibles and deliver the big plays. It’s just who she is and always has been.
Whitney Hobson has seen it and done it all. She has played against and with some of the best. There are few kids that can say they have received better coaching along the way in their career.She has taken the teaching of Matt McCarthy and Joe GABA over the years to develop her game. She has watched her game soar over the years. She played Robin to the Shore Conference Player of The Year in Nina Emnace for two years. Then became the Trinity Hall team leader this year running the point. See Whitney is capable of adjusting to any role she is asked to play. Last summer she left the ShoreShots to join United because she knew her high school team needed a point guard. So she turned herself into a an award winning point guard. You see Whitney is about winning and playing against the best. Her competitive nature reaps havoc throughout a gym. Her teammates and coaches can feel her presence and influence on a game. It’s no surprise that Trinity Hall is now one of the best programs in New Jersey. It’s no surprise that they could a Top 5 team in that state to start the season next year. That’s because when you have players like Whitney Hobson, your team has a soul and a true leader.
You see Whitney Hobson is a kid that does the “winning shit”. The things only coaches can appreciate. She plays multiple defensive positions, she makes the tough plays in big moments. She gives her teammates confidence. You see Whitney Hobson is that player when things get tough, that can take her mental toughness to another level in the biggest moments on the biggest stages. Matt McCarthy saw something in Whitney 3 years ago. He knew what nobody else knew. Whitney Hobson was hungry to be great. He knew she wanted chips and success. So he took a chance and threw her into the fire. He hasn’t regretted it for a second as she has rewarded him in a big way.
Whitney Hobson is big strong and long. You can’t understand this until you really see her play multiple times. There is no dazzle dazzle in her game. She just makes everything look simple. She bury’s the open jumpers like it is a birth right. She punishes smaller guards with her sneaky strength and size. Her ability to to step up and elevate teammates with basic fundamental basketball is almost a throwback to the good old days. Whitney Hobson, is a gym rat. It’s the reason why Ivy and Patriot schools are going to do a dance this weekend. There going to be shocked by her cool level headed demeanor. There going to be shocked by her maturity. She plays so much older than her her age. That’s because both g has come easy for Whitney Hobson. She has had to grind to get where she is today.
