CASEY MIRANDA… NEW JERSEY HAS A “BIG” SECRET!
RED BANK REG is a very interesting place. They have had a very successful program in recent years. They have had teams ranked in the Top 20 in the State, won state titles and even the WOBM title two straight years. But when your in the best girls basketball conference in the country it’s easy to get lost in the crowd. It’s easy to forget what has taken place. But it doesn’t take away from the great success in recent years. That because when RBR hired Hall of Fame Coach John Truhan, RBR finally turned the corner. Their historic win over RBC in the SCT on the road is still their crowning moment. But RBR has had some great players as Camryn Gardner who was offered numerous D1 scholarships and of course the WOBM MVP winner Caroline Pollaway, who also turned down a number of D1 scholarships. Now this past season, RBR continued to build on what John Truhan started. SYNAI BLYCHANTON accepted a scholarship to Westchester College a D2 in Pa, it was another example of the growth of the program. Which gets me to why I am here today. CASEY MIRANDA of RBR and the Central Jersey Hawks just may be the most interesting prospect in New Jersey.

If you notice, there are few picture in this blog, few videos in this blog. that’s because in many ways Casey Miranda is a ghost. Her twitter account is all of 4 tweets in her career. It seems almost impossible for a 6’1″ athletic player to be missed these days. That’s because size, length and athleticism are in high demand by college recruiters. It’s why Casey Miranda’s story is so special and in many ways bizarre and beautiful. In a era of self promoting and hype. It’s nice to know their are still kids just joining a team and playing basketball without an agenda. I remember the first time I saw Casey Miranda as a 8th grader. It seemed nobody wanted to speak about her including her soon to be coach at RBR John Truhan. It was clear nobody wanted her to catch the attention of a RBC, SJV, Rutgers Prep or for that manner any high profile team. After watching her sprint the floor and rebound, I know why the RBR faithful were being so tight lipped. It was clear the upside of Casey Miranda was huge. I spoke to her after the game, I hoped she would possibly come to NBS and find a few older mentors with size to help her grow as a player. I even put her on my Golden Dozen list. I thought she had a chance to be very good. But a funny thing happened after that day, it was the last time I saw of Casey Miranda. I went to a few RBR games in her freshman year and watched her team play her freshman year. Notice, I said watch her team play. That’s because If she played, I didn’t remember it or she didn’t play much. That is a old story, a kid with talent disappearing. They find a new sport, things they enjoy more or simply don’t improve. I didn’t think much about Casey Miranda much after that year. But like many things in sports, change can happen.

Last season I was watching a game between Shore Reg and RBR. I saw a tall athletic girl who looked very different than most post players. She seemed to grab every rebound in traffic, I saw a girl with real scoring potential and elite next level shot blocker. I thought how could I not know this kid. So after the game, I asked around and low and behold. It was Casey Miranda, the same athletic player I had seen as a 8th grader. I knew she had attended RBR but had long forgotten about her. I was shocked, because she looked so at ease and confident. I wondered what had happen to her and couldn’t understand how this player could be so under the radar. A player who had 10 rebounds vs RFH and 13 rebounds vs Cherokee in back to back games and she’s only a sophomore. It all made no sense to me. JUST LIKE HER TRIPLING HER POINTS, REBOUNDS, BLOCKS AND STEALS from a year earlier. Yes, I said triple her stats, folks I doubt you can find another player in the state that can make that statement. Again another reason this entire thing with Casey Miranda is so strange. How can a 6’2″ kid do this and nobody talk about it. She was just a baby doing these things.

If you ask people where does Casey Miranda trains? Nobody knows. Nobody as least that truly matters knows. When you ask coaches, do they know about her? They right away think your talking about Caroline Pollawell. When you ask what AAU team she plays on? You get different answer each time. It all adds up to this mystery surrounding Casey Miranda, now you see her and now you don’t. It’s only when LOU PAOLILLO one of her AAU coaches called me to tell me about her, did I finally put things together…TWO WEEKS LATER! Casey plays for the Central Jersey Hawks U17 Westrol team. She is playing up a year. It’s a smart move because she is in a healthy teaching environment. The Central Jersey Hawks have two things no other AAU team can match, they don’t lie or exaggerate to kids and they actually care about kids. Yes Randy Westrol and his organizations are dinosaurs, can you imagine a AAU organization putting the kids first? So it was no surprise when I streamed the Central Hawks games the last two days. ( yes even the streaming prices are out of control now) That I knew Casey Miranda was on her way to big things.

Now if your a college coach, looking for size and talent. Let me say this to you about Casey Miranda, I am not sure any young player with size has more upside. I can tell you this right now, I know of none who loves rebounding the ball more. She has a natural gift and nose for the ball. Her timing is special and more importantly she plays off her feet. I know if this young lady listens to Randy Westrol, she will soon be a household name. She, D1 College Coaches; just may be the biggest steal in the state before all this shakes out in the end. The problem is that she has two more years, so by then the cat may be out the bag. I doubt this young lady can stay under the radar for two more years. IN FACT I SAY IT’S IMPOSSIBLE. She is just too talented and gifted to stay in the dark.
Recently a Coach told me he was going to try and get Casey Miranda to attend NBS to be part of my training. Truthful I knew this would not happen, what I do and who I am is not for everyone. It doesn’t mean a kid doesn’t have that fire or desire. It just means they have a different path, like Casey Miranda does. I believe Casey Miranda is on her way to doing special things. I believe she is going to become a household name. I hope the snakes don’t get to her, when she blow up. I hope she stays the course, because it clearly has been working based on what I have seen this summer on video. She has the right inner circle, now all she has to do is keep on keeping on!!
