NEW JERSEY 2026 ALL SHORE DEFENSIVE TEAM
The New Jersey 2026 Shore All Defensive Team, is stacked with talent this year. We have perhaps the best defensive player in Shore History. A returning player from last year, who now positions herself to make history a year from now. There are 4 new faces. This year’s team has 4 seniors and 2 juniors. Four of our team members have committed to DIVISION ONE SCHOOLS. As usual there will not be wealth sharing. My decisions are based on performance and film only. While there are many great defenders in the Shore. These are the players who made the biggest impact on the defensive side of the ball.

ADDY NYEMCHEK MAKES IT TWO IN A ROW (ARTICLE) – https://nothingbutskills.com/addy-nyemchek-goes-back-to-back-again-the-2026-shore-conference-defensive-player-of-the-year/

TATUM SHARPE-ST. JOHN VIANNEY- JUNIOR- 6’0″ – WING
There has always been the potential for Tatum Sharpe to be a great defender. That’s because of her next level length, size, quickness and toughness. But the thing really holding her back was the lack of minutes played earlier in her career. This season she stepped into a pride time role for SJV and proved she is a future DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR CANDIDATE. This season she hounded some of the very best in the Shore. She did perhaps the best job of guarding Mickey D All American Addy Nyemchek as anyone in the state. What separates Tatum Sharpe from so many is her ability to guard great players straight up without needing help. Her ability to rebound in traffic makes her a true weapon on the defense side of the ball. She is one of the best defensive rebounding guards in the state. Her ability to deny the ball on the wing or in the post is truly a gift as is her ability to get back in transition and break up fast breaks. She is a master at rotating to double team the ball both in half or full court. TATUM SHARPE on the ball in SJV”s full court pressure simply was devastating to opponents. It was she that often changed games with her pressure on in-bounders or her trapping after the first pass. It was truly next level stuff. But it if you want the secret sauce to her defensive power source, it’s her ability to guards all three guards positions and forwards. Something she will be able to do at the next level as well. This is TATUM SHARPE’S FIRST APPEARANCE ON NEW JERSEY SHORE ALL DEFENSIVE TEAM AND MOST LIKELY NOT HER LAST, CONGRATULATIONS TO TATUM SHARPE

BROOKE JAENICKE – ST. ROSE- JUNIOR-5’8″ – COMBO
Nothing much has changed since her days at RFH. Brooke Jaenicke is the best on ball defender in the Shore Conference. She was on the ALL DEFENSIVE TEAM last season and now is back again. She will have a chance next year to be a three time ALL DEFENSIVE TEAM MEMBER, putting her in rare company with Addy Nyemchek( Indiana University) and Nina Emnace (Trinity Hall/ Harvard University). No player in the Shore Conference put more ball pressure baseline to baseline on ball handlers than Brooke Jaenicke. Her ability to turn ball handlers is next level. What is more impressive is the way she can help defend in the post, provide weak side help and not lose shooters. This is rare stuff at any level. Brooke never misses a box out assignment and is a 50/50 ball magician. Her ability to fight over screens is priceless as is her ability to blow up hand offs and side screens. There is no question Brooke is one of the most consistent defenders we have seen in the shore the past two years. She set the tone for a banged up St. Rose team, this past season on the defensive side of the ball. CONGRATULATIONS TO BROOKE!

DANIELA MALETSKY- RED BANK CATHOLIC- SENIOR-5’9″ COMBO
She was recently named the SHORE SPORTS INSIDER DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR for good reason. She was that good this season. She erased and made great scorers disappear all season. Maletsky who is on her way to West Point was the minister of defense all season for RBC. Most impressive was that she guarded the best point guards, shooting guards and forwards in the Shore based on the opponents team strengths and she did it though-out the state. Joe Montano, had no fear in using her in any situation. Her ability to trap defenders and get over screens was next level. Her defensive rebounding ability was special because of her quickness to the ball and strong hands on miss shots. Her show stopping performance vs SJV was the highlight of the season. But won’t over shadow what she did over the course of an entire season. When you think about the schedule and who RBC played it was remarkable what she did in big game after big game. She turned elite scorers into high volume low percentage shooters with her physical, aggressive style of play. She made scoring difficult on everyone in the state of New Jersey with a reputation for scoring and there were NO EXCEPTIONS. Daniela’s fitness and conditioning level wore opponents down game after game, right up until the state title game vs Paul VI. While many so called great defenders slow defenders down. Maletsky closes the door for 32 minutes and more importantly during crunch time or closing time, when stars often get going. Well not against the Minister of defense did they, game after game. While she proved often she could take over games offensively. Danny was no no box score junkie. She hung here her in what her team needed most, DEFENSE! She was hard nose and tough. But her sportsmanship and clean play is what I believe she admired most for as well!!!…..CONGRATS TO DANNY MALETSKY on making The New Jersey 2026 ALL DEFENSIVE TEAM

TAYLOR SOFILKANICKH- ST. JOHN VIANNEY- SENIOR- 6’3″- CENTER
There was not bigger presence in the lane than Taylor Sofilkanich. Regardless if she was blocking shots, rebounding or being physical, she was always a factor. She was not just a space eater but her ability to play both sides of the lane was not just intimidating it was down right humbling at times. Taylor’s ability to clean up her teammates mistakes allowed the SJV guards to live in passing lanes without fear. They knew Sofilkanich had their back all season. She has sensation on defending ball screens, she could either trap or blow up screens. Her sheer size and mobility make her a problem every night. Her competitive nature was next level all season. She played with emotion and energy on the defensive side of the ball. She was so much more than just being tall. She is a smart and talented defender who understands game planning. Her ability at times to switch out on guards was breathtaking and why DUKE UNIVERSITY has to be excited about her future on the defensive side of the ball. The upside of Taylor from a defensive standpoint is as big as it gets. That’s because it seems she is starting to enjoy dominating on the defensive end of the ball more and more. This year was a sign of things to come. This is TAYLOR SOFILKANICH’S FIRST ALL DEFENSIVE APPEARANCE… CONGRATULATIONS

SOPHIE SMITH- RED BANK CATHOLIC- SENIOR- 6’3″- FORWARD
If you were paying attention no forward got back in transition like SOPHIE. Just like no forward defended pick and roll or ball screens like Sophie Smith. Her ability to switch out and defend guards was priceless in all of RBC’s game plans. Her IQ is beyond next level. She knows when to switch, blow up screens or trap screens…real next level stuff. Her ability to defend in the post may be the reason RBC won the SCT and State Titles. She not only blocked shots, she knew when to contest and change a shot or wall up and force a bad shot, again real next level type stuff. Playing against elite competition all year. Sophie Smith turned the lights out on some of the best forwards quietly. On most nights she rotated to opposing guards getting into the lane and used her length and athleticism to create turnovers, after it appeared an opponent had an easy score. This was a theme all season. Her big time alertness prevented SJV from tying the game in the State Final vs SJV, as she prevented the game winning shot. Sophie Smith will attend Harvard University next year. This is her first ALL DEFENSIVE TEAM APPEARANCE… CONGRATULATIONS TO SOPHIE “BIG SHOT” SMITH
