SAM GRELLA KEEPS WORKING DESPITE THE D1 OFFERS!

There is a wonderful feeling that comes when get your 1st Division one offer. It brings a feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment. But when you get the next one while there is excitement, the good ones know there is much work to be done to take the next step as a player. D1 offers are nice but they are not a true measure of the type player you are or will become. Your work ethic, commitment and desire determine that. SAM GRELLA check all those boxes and more. That’s because it seems her game has risen another level despite her D1 offers and new status.

When Sam Grella left the NjJ RAPTORS to join the ShoreShots, she was looking for more exposure and competition. She got both with the Shoreshots, the D1 offers that she felt was in her future long ago and the next level competition, she needed to grow as a player. But unlike so many others when these things were accomplished. It simply made her more hungry. It made her shoot for new goals and to work even harder on her on her game. This is why she is one of the most improved players in New Jersey, despite her newfound exposure and success. The fact the she has turned her body into a physical work of art should be no surprise. Her commitment to the weight room is a clear and present danger to anyone who has seen her lately. Her shooting range and ability to score in multiple fashions are what coaches dream about. But it’s really Sam Grella’s competitive nature that has elevated her game.

Last summer  Sam GRELLA, took a major step up in competition. With that came  playing in fronts of as many has 60- 70 coaches at a game. This was  all new to the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION junior and an added layer of pressure . So there was an adjustment period for the 5’11” wing player with the sweet lefty jumper. But SAM GRELLA was part of the team that became the first NJ  team to defeated SJV for the first time in 4 years. So pressure was nothing new to her. It’s why by the end of the summer, so many coaches were singing her praises and understanding what I already knew. Sam Grella has an ability to take her game to another level and that’s exactly what she has been doing these days.

See so many kids talk about it, but SAM GRELLA is all about it. Kids talk about making sacrifices. Meanwhile SAM GRELLA takes the 1 hour and 15  min drive to NBS every weekend to play against the killers. So many kids talk about competition, Sam Grella left her happy place to join the best U16  team in New Jersey, the U16 Shoreshots, a team where every player has a D1 offer except one. She did this without any guarantees and promises. So many kids talk about getting to the next level. Sam Grella is “ ALWAYS” one of first players in the gym and always prepared when she arrives. It goes to her maturity and understanding of what is expected. Sam doesn’t make excuses or shirk vs elite competition. She has answers and plays bigger.

The growth of SAM GRELLA should not come as a surprise to anyone. That’s because she is constantly challenging her game. She is never satisfied and not motivated by D1 offers or hype. She just loves the game and wants to be the best player, she can be… and folks that’s a dam good player. Watching Sam Grella dismantle some very talented players this fall has really not been a surprise to me. What surprise’s me is when she doesn’t destroy the competition. There is hungry like I just missed breakfast and there’s I’m hungry because I haven’t eaten… SAM GRELLA still feels like she hasn’t eaten and is looking for more folks to fed offer!
