LETS HAVE A LITTLE DEBATE

Its official the school year has started. Now the high school season starts to take shape. Teammates get to see each other every day. The team chemistry starts to build and even if AAU is still hovering around, its still the high school programs that rule the day. It’s that time of year were growing as a group and improving as a player becomes very important. Its also that time of year where all the debates start. So today I will start a few debates of my own….now remember its early and some kids are going to improve before December, some players are going to get hurt, some players are not going to live up to the hype and trust me some players are not going to be prepared for the season. …so her are a few things to debate about at the water cooler..

CAN ANYONE BEAT SJV?  On paper NOBODY.  But the game is not played on paper. I say the teams with the best chance are in this order…RFH…MIDDLETOWN SOUTH…ST. ROSE. You asking where is Manasquan? Too many injuries and no Mabrey.

WHO WILL WIN THE PLAYER OF THE YEAR? I say Kelly Campbell starts as the clubhouse leader. She is the hardest worker maybe in the Shore. So of all the great players, she will be the most ready. She also plays on the best team and she is a senior…

WHO WILL WIN ROOKIE OF THE YEAR? I say Faith Masonious is the overwhelming favorite. She is maybe the most talented player entering the shore since Marina Mabrey. She has already played with most of her teammates for years and she is on a Top team.

WHO IS THE MOST IMPROVED PLAYER IN THE SHORE? I  say Lindsey Morris of Rumson coming out of the summer. Will that be the case come December? Lets see how her fall shapes up. But if the summer is a peep into the future… watch out.

WHO MAKES FIRST TEAM ALL SHORE THIS YEAR? Well I believe these 4 are going to be tough to move out, Kelly Campbell, Kimi Evans, Stephanie Karcz and Desi Allen. This group of players are going to put up numbers and their teams will win games.  Its  gets real interesting after these 4…

WHAT NEW PLAYER WILL THE HAVE THE BIGGEST IMPACT? Well that’s easy because Christina Antonakakis  found the perfect fit for her skill sets. Her impact could be a difference maker for RFH. But Lucinda Tomas could be straw that stirs the drink for St. Rose

WHAT PLAYER WILL SEE THEIR STOCK RISE THE MOST?  This is a one horse race in my mind. Katie Rice could be a All Shore Player before the year is over. RICE could end the year as the most in demand  rising Junior.

WHAT TEAM COULD SURPRISE EVERYONE? Colts Neck could be the most underrated crew in recent years. They have a top sophomore,  a star senior and a stud freshman. They have a lot of kids living in the gym and have great team chemistry.  Glenn Jansen is a future star in the shore.

WHAT TEAM HAS THE BIGGEST GAP TO FILL? No question St. Rose lost two mega stars in Kat Phipps and Jess Louro. The soft schedule will help them early, but at some point, they will face real competition. Somebody will need to step up, when they face this real competition. The talent is there, it just a matter of who will become the new big dog

WHO IS THE BEST PLAYER NOBODY KNOWS? This one is so easy it’s a joke. After watching Cara Volpe at camp this summer, I couldn’t believe how good she was. How good is she? Good enough for me to call her and ask her to sign up for NBS when I had one spot left…this young lady is the real deal. She could be one of the best in the Shore before she is done.

WHO IS ONE OF THE TOP TEN PLAYERS IN THE SHORE AND FEW KNOW HER NAME? That player would be Sidney Coffaro who is flat out a mega star in the making. Yes she was on the All Freshman team, yet we never talk about her…well I do!

4. ST. ROSE…it going to be interesting, the talent is there

5. RBC…this could be too low to start the fall

6. MANASQUAN…injuries drop them to start the fall

7. NEPTUNE…Desi Allen will led the way

8. SOUTHERN…can they hold on till Gabbie Davis returns

9. COLTS NECK….this could be a surprise group
